A great first pass at a proper academic reader.
(Especially if the three buttons at the bottom accurately hint at Android underpinnings.) Needs an instant tweak: the sidecar pen dock has to go. A thing like that is going to live in briefcases, backpacks, and shoulder bags. Usually in a portfolio case. Stick the pen there. Or give it a ridge that slides and locks into a groove on one of the edges. The Nook-like corner bevel needs to go, too. Price? Don't expect it any lower than the equivalent of US$699 or so. (This *is* an updating of the Plastic Logic reader concept, after all.) Last edited by fjtorres; 05-13-2013 at 07:52 AM. |

If they make it I will buy it. I have been waiting for a large screen e-reader for years. I honestly did not think that it would ever happen. Hopefully it will.

7mm thick. thats nice. clearly the appearance is in an early unrefined stage for the school trials. it will change before final. this must have those larger LG foil backed displays inside....

The article says it only supports PDF files. I'd buy this in a minute if it supported ePub too.

I wouldn't slip that baby into a schoolbag, it's the best way to break it against all the other stuff students usually have in their bags.
Also no word on the screen resolution, color, processor power ... And 13" is a tad too big, at least for book reading. |

You can find some specs here:
http://www.sony.co.jp/SonyInfo/News/...201305/13-058/ The screen is 1'200 x 1'600 "flexible electronic paper" 13'3 inch. |

And the flexible screen means no glass substrate to break. It should survive a schoolbag big even without a leather portfolio to protect it. And 1600x1200 resolution means about 167 dpi. Perfectly fine for grayscale as long as they have good antialiasing in the PDF rendering engine. |

Intriguing.
For drawings! Don't need the dpi if you have good convenient zoom. BUT!! What about handwriting recognition? |
