How to fix a creaky Aura.

A few places along the bezel of my Aura would creak and pop when I held it and moved my fingers around. After trying it out in a Aura sleepcover which I returned, it made the problem worse. Here is a quick solution that solved the problem for me.

I used a super fine hobby brush and painted some crazy glue into the seam around the top edge of the housing. I only applied it in the creaky areas, and very, very sparingly. Give it a quick wipe with your fingers immediately before it begins to dry to keep it smooth. A few minutes to dry and no more creak. The glue dries invisible but I did use a magic eraser to clean off a bit of residue that had a different sheen than the case.

Just wanted to put that out there in case it bothered anyone else.

I have a creaky one, I've been deciding if it bothers me or not. Thanks for posting

Good advice! As fat as I know I don't have a creaky one and I'm not interested in finding out! Ignorance is bliss as they say.

You're super brave being the first to try glue. I'm glad it fixed it and thanks for the tip.

I don't know how the Aura looks in detail and where exactly you are putting the glue. Depending on the details, and if you plan to make a back-up copy of the internal SD (I guess there is one) you might consider doing this before you apply the glue.

I believe I would choose the noise over a voided warranty.

I suspect they all creak a little bit, mine certainly does, but not enough to bother me. I would never use glue to fix it - what if you or a service centre needed to remove the back?

I was happy with mine. Now I find myself checking for noise by squeezing the edges when I read!!

Wish I has skipped this thread. Mine is not noisy but will be before I am done.

I'm talking a minimal amount of glue here people. I doubt that anyone would be able to tell, I put it on and I can't even see it.

I was not really bothered by the noise mine made either until I put it in and out of the sleep cover a few times it got a lot worse.

I've already returned a Glo and they just sent me a refurb with the same problem so I can't be bothered to try that again, but if someone at Kobo did open it I bet the glue would just snap apart because it's just on the surface in the seam. I could be wrong...

So I'm not recommending anyone try it themselves just saying that it worked for me.

I would rather choose the glue over having to wait for a new unit if everything else was fine with it.

For me when I pinch the bezel in the top right corner, it makes a little click sound - as if it's not fully "snapped" in place, even though it's as tight as it's probably ever going to be.

Everywhere else on the bezel is fine. It's really not a big deal to me - especially since I never hold the top part of the bezel when reading.

Thanks for the tip. Since it's been a long time from application of glue, have you encountered the same squeaking thing again? What should be done if there's a need to open up the device for battery replacement or anything else?
