Who here has Kindle PW, Kobo Glo and a Sony?
I'm curious about the texture on the glass between the various devices.
Is the screen on the PW any smoother or the same as the Glo? Is it possibly something unavoidable due to the light layer? The Kobo Glo has a rough bumpy feel to me that I honestly find off-putting and still not used to after using it daily for 2 weeks now. But I only have the Sony 350s to compare it to, and the Sony screen is perfectly smooth to me in comparison. |

I only have a Glo, but I found that after repeated cleaning with a microfibe cloth the screen texture has become smooth. I think there might have orginally been a coating on the screen perhaps to give it a papery feel, but it has disappeared now along with the powdery coating on the bezel.

While I actually like glossy screens for my TV and computer monitors, I appreciate the matte finish of all the e-readers I've used. |

I have a Glow, Touch and Kindle PW
Firstly I have not noticed much difference between the Kobo's and PW in the screen dept but there is a vast difference in the reading experience...the kobo environment is way superior ( for books) |

I'll keep cleaning off the screen with a microfiber cloth and hope that helps. I've even used a slightly damp cloth in the hopes to get rid of any dusty feeling left over from manufacturing.
Thanks for the responses. |

The only differences I could see so far are in the software: Glo, feature rich but buggy as hell; PW, feature poor and shitty but absolutely stable; T1; feature rich and stable. Also, the PW comes with a different touch mechanism, much more smooth when it comes to taking notes. As for the screen itself, though, I could see no 'true' difference. |

It's not a difference you can "see"... it's the "feel" of the glass as you're swiping to turn pages.

The glo is marginally rougher, true. The Paperwhite marginally smoother. Compared to the PRS-T1, that is. Marginally, IMHO: it is not like one has nails on it and the others feels velvet.
I daresay that I didn't find the thing very disturbing, honestly. Anyway, after a couple of months of use the Glo feels absolutely neutral (I mean it, it is not a mistype of 'natural'). As a side note, I don't thing cleaning it solves anything. Personally, I cleaned it only once to get rid of the 'brighter pixels': in my case it was some kind of 'oily stain' which made the thing look brighter, and I used a normal rag and the liquid to clean eyeglasses. |

C'est une "texture" en relief qu'il ne faut surtout pas prendre pour un défaut. Elle participe à la qualité et confort de lecture.
Useful for dispersing the ray of light. |

I had a Sony PRS650 and a Kobo Touch, both their screens were totally smooth to touch.
I presently have a KPW, Kobo Glo and Kobo Aura HD. All of their screens have a slightly rough texture...I am not sure if that is due to the frontlight technology used by these ereader...I like that texture and it does not have any negative impact on the usability or responsiveness of the KPW/Glo/Aura |
