microSD Card - What Am I Missing?!

Just bought a SanDisk Ultra 32GB microSD card. I can't get it to "click" in place in the SD card slot. I'm inserting it such that the connection points (for lack of a better term) are going in first. If I hold it in the slot, I get a message on the Aura HD that says "Can't recognize your SD card. Format to FAT32 & try again." I did, and Windows indicates its already formatted FAT32. Am I using the wrong microSD card??

You will get a reformat message when the card does not seat properly. The port does seem picky in terms of getting a card to seat.

I don't have an Aura, but I use a Sandisk Ultra 16GB in my Glo and it definately clicks into place when inserted properly (To eject I push it in a bit further and it clicks again and springs back as it releases.

You need to keep pushing it till it stops; at this point the card will be nearly flush with the body of ereader. Using a finger nail or finding someone with dainty little hands helps. If the card wasn't properly ejected or inserted it can screw up the file system, it will appear to be completely functional when connected to your computer, yet the reader will not be able to read/write. Try reformatting the card using the tool from this site: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

Also try inserting the card when your reader is turned off, it reduces the likelihood of experiencing format/corruption problems. One final thing, if you are using an SD to microSD card adaptor to connect the card to your computer, try another one.

If you still can’t get the card to mechanically engage then it’s possible that the card holder in the reader is defective, you would have to contact kobo or go to your store and get a replacement.

You should feel or hear a click when you insert your micro-SD card, and it should definitely lock into place with the edge of the card flush to the surface of your Aura. If that doesn't happen, even when you're super careful about inserting the card straight, try another card. (Physical damage to the card may prevent it from locking into place.) If that still doesn't work, ask another person to try. (Because sometimes we may be doing everything right, but still get it wrong.) If that still doesn't work, chalk it up as a manufacturing defect and exchange it.

Thanks to all for the tips & info! Finally got the microSD seated in the Aura HD. All is now well!

I think I will use the microSD card as a backup for my Calibre library in case something goes haywire on the device while away from my PC. I don't buy my books from Kobo so I don't have my library in Kobo's cloud (I'm a convert from the Amazon KPW).

I had the same problem with placing Adata sd card in Kobo Aura H2O. First of all there is no information on the reader how to place the card in, I mean which side up or down. There is no information how to do it even in the manual of Kobo. So I had to check it by myself with a torch and it wasn't fun. Although the slot works extremely tight I managed to place sd card in and system recognized it properly, but i think there is no way I could possibly take the card out, because no matter how strong i push, it doesn't click out. So i just leave it inside hoping It will work forever. However it's very annoying that in a cheap mobile phone the card slot works perfect: clicks in and out as many times as you want, but in a expensive reader it doesn't.
