Converting 320MB HTML to MOBI
Hi everyone,
I have used HTTrack to download the entire Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy. http://plato.stanford.edu/contents.html It's produced a big HTML folder of 320MB. I opened it with calibre, and it showed its size as 112MB; then I tried to convert it to MOBI, and it ran all night, stuck on 47%. Is this project simply not feasible, or is there a way of making calibre capable of doing it? Thank you very much for your help, noctilux |

Conversion can take a very long time, provided you are using the 64bit version of calibre and your computer has enough RAM the conversion will complete. However, it is unlikely that any kindle will be able to open the MOBI successfully.

I see... Thank you for your super-fast reply!
Can you think of any way of making such a large file usable on a Kindle? Basically, it's lots of pretty small articles, with one main table of contents page -- perhaps that helps? (It's not one massive article) Last edited by noctilux; 04-26-2013 at 04:49 AM. |

@noctilux If you've been able to convert to MOBI, then use Calibre to convert the MOBI to ePUB, you could then use the ePUBSplit plugin to do the splitting into smaller chunks, and convert those to MOBI.
If you don't have a MOBI yet, then convert the HTML to ePUB. But before I did any of that I would consult with ePUBSplit author (Kiwidude) to see if he has any reservations about dealing with a very large ePUB - because another conversion will probably take about the same time to complete as the one you already did Nuh, they did Grind It Away ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-26-2013 at 06:15 PM.
