Calibre: Access Denied
After successfully using Calibre for many years, I have started having issues. Whenever I try to open my EPUB files in calibre's viewer I get the message:
calibre, version 0.9.27 ____________________________________________ERROR: Could not open ebook: [Error 5] Access is denied: u'C:\\Users\\Name\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\calibre_j s95_t\\sshqee_ebook_iter' Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\viewer\main.py", line 40, in run File "threading.py", line 504, in run File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\oeb\iterator\book.py", line 99, in __enter__ File "site-packages\calibre\customize\conversion.py", line 234, in __call__ File "site-packages\calibre\__init__.py", line 441, in __enter__ WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied: u'C:\\Users\\Name\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\calibre_j s95_t\\sshqee_ebook_iter' I'm using Windows 7 64bit and the 64bit version of calibre. I had not updated or changed any calibre settings, though I have since updated it in an attempt to fix it. I read where this error can be a conflict issue with anti-virus software, but I don't believe that is the case here as my anti-virus is set to manual updates only and the program has firewall/anti-virus exceptions. Additionally, I have checked my AppData folder permissions and everything looks okay on that end. So...I'm not sure what else to try. The program works when running as administrator...but I have never needed to do that in the past, and when running as administrator, other weird things happen...like calibre will no longer allow me to drag and drop books into the program. Any help is much appreciated ![]() |

Something on your computer is preventing calibre from accessing its own temporary files. Most
likely the permissions on your Temp folder are incorrect. Go to the folder C:\\Users\\USERNAME\\AppData\\Local in Windows Explorer and then right click on the Temp folder, select Properties and go to the Security tab. Make sure that your user account has full control for this folder. Alternately, you can run calibre as Administrator, but doing so will cause some functionality, such as drag and drop to not work. |

Calibre issue to view books
calibre, version 1.8.0

Reinstalling does not help... And I cannot use the software at all, becauase I cannot add books as well. Adding books just stalls... I think that the only way that works for me is the portable version, but it has it downs. |

Something on your computer is preventing calibre from launching worker processes, most likely a security program of some sort.

After a lot of debugging, it turns out that the solution is absurdly simple.
Ensure that the entire "calibre library" folder tree is not read-only. In windows: Calibre Portable\Calibre Library>attrib -r *.* /d /s In other words: open a cmd prompt. go to your Calibre Library folder Type attrib -r *.* /d /s
Good luck. |
