What e-book reader software is compatible with a Windows 8 tablet?

I wish I had known about this forum before I bought my tablet.
I have a large collection of ebooks and digital comics in various formats including pdf, epub, lit, chm, djvu, cbr, cbz as well as some Amazon azw files on my desktop PC version of Kindle.
I had been able to read them with various reader software on my Windows XP desktop and Windows 7 laptop.
But I wanted a tablet that would be easier to take and read anywhere.
So I thought the easiest thing to ensure that I could still read everything was to get a tablet that rand Windows. So I got a tablet that runs Windows 8.
Fortunately, the Asus tablet I bought seems to have a version of Kindle pre-installed as well as something called MyReader, but I don't know what formats that accepts or how to get ebooks in it. Can anyone provide that info for MyReader?
Unfortunately, the newest versions of Calibre, ComicRack, Adobe Digital Editions, and Adobe Reader won't work on this tablet. I thought Microsoft Reader would surely work on Windows 8, but their web page doesn't even exist any more, so maybe it's been abandoned.
I found MagicScroll online that will allow me to upload a limited number of epubs, so I can read epubs on there from the tablet.
But I haven't found substitutes for reading PDFs or digital comics yet. I may have to use Calibre to translate them to epubs on my laptop, then gradually upload them to MagicScroll, deleting them as I finish reading them so I won'd go over the limit.
Does anyone know of any ebook reader software that will work for the formats I have on a Windows 8 tablet?

Which flavor of Windows 8 are you running? x86 or RT?
If you're running the x86 (Surface Pro and comparables) it will run *everything* that runs on any PC. Including Calibre, ADE, Acrobat, etc. You just need to flip to the desktop mode.
If it is the RT ARM version it can run Nook, Kindle, Kobo and a few other apps you can find through the Windows App store.

I tried to be sure to avoid RT based on reviews on Amazon, so I think I got x86.
How do you flip it to desktop mode? (The instructions that came with it are way too basic, uninformative and unhelpful). Is that where I press the on-screen desktop button?
Can you get to Internet Explorer after you click desktop? Because that's the software I was in when I was trying to download Acrobat and the others, except I guess I wasn't in desktop mode.
When I tried to download Acrobat, ComicRack, and Calibre, the downloads completed, then a message popped up each time that said I couldn't use the software on this tablet. Would that happen if I was not in desktop mode?

Use the Desktop Tile and Start Menu

When you are on Metro UI, touch or click the desktop tile to switch to your desktop environment. When you are on the desktop, move the mouse cursor to the lower left corner until the Start icon pops up, click on the icon to switch to the Metro UI. If you have a touch enabled device, you can use touch gesture to accomplish the same task.

Use the Start button from the Charms Menu

Move your mouse cursor or swipe to the right side of the screen until the Charms menu appears. Click on the Start button (window with four panels) to switch to the Metro UI. Use one of the options mentioned above to switch to desktop.

I tapped the desktop icon on the start screen and then tapped the Internet Explorer Icon to download the software I want and once again, each time I got the same message that Calibre, Acrobat, ComicRack, and Digital Editions will not work on this tablet.

I also re-read the Amazon description of the tablet I bought, and there is absolutely no mention of whether it is RT or x86. When I bought it, I thought that if it didn't mention RT, then it must be regular Windows 8 but maybe that's not the case.

So I had uploaded some of my epubs to the MagicScroll website from my desktop. So I went to MagicScroll on my tablet and when I tried to log in, it gave me a brand new password as if I had never been there before. I guess it recognizes that I'm accessing it from a different device, so it looks like I can't access the books I uploaded from my desktop on the tablet.

So I went through the free apps available on the tablet. I saw a version of Acrobat made especially for this and I saw a couple of other free ebook readers, so I tried to download them, but now it won't download anything because it says my internet connection is too slow. I don't understand that, because it wasn't too slow when it downloaded the standard apps when I first set it up.

This just gets more and more frustrating.

The Asus website lists only two vivotabs:
1. Asus VivoTab RT --- Windows RT
2. Asus VivoTab Smart --- Windows 8 x86

If you do indeed have the VivoTab Smart, you have Windows 8.

As for anything else, try google. I googled windows 8 ereader apps and VivoTab Smart forums and it came up with dozens of hits for both where you would probably get specific info for your particular device.
