Filename format for input control

I've spent the past 45 minutes searching for this so either it has not been asked or else (more likely) I am using the wrong words to describe what I am trying to do.

What is the preferred format for the filename in order, when inputting the book into Calibre, the author name and title and other information go into the correct heading?

For example, after some experimentation, I found that if I rename the book on my computer as book_title - author , then the information goes correctly into Calibre. What I am trying to do is figure out how to add some more information, like series and number. I have tried different combinations but nothing is working. Suggestions?

Preferences > Adding Books

Set the Regular expression field to:
Code:
(?P<author>[^_-]+) -?\s*(?P<series>[^_0-9-]*)(?P<series_index>[0-9]*)\s*-\s*(?P<title>[^_].+) ?
That expression should be one of the options in the dropdown...

A book with the filename in the following format should work:

Author - Series Series Number - Title.epub

Perfect! Thanks. Do you have a resource that explains how to set this for yourself, depending on the file? Basically, how to write the hieroglyphics you wrote above? I would like to learn it myself.
