Mobi & KindlePreviewer.exe problem

On a new Windows 8 computer KindlePreviewer.exe is the system default for mobi files. In Calibre I've unchecked the use internal viewer box in preferences->behavior marked mobi. I've also unchecked the box marked epub. The system default for epub is sigil and when I click on the format, epub in the Book Details pane sigil opens the selected book, but when I click on mobi nothing happens? Both sigil and KindlePreviewer work fine in Windows Explorer.

I know nothing about w8, but I (despite my senility), think I remember something similar on W-Vista.
It simply was a question of running the K-Previever directly, setting default settings etc. Directly could be from from the start menu etc.
Once that was done, the associations worked.
Don't know if it works the same way in W8

No it doesn't. Opens in windows, not in Calibre.

Can you use the Open With Plugin to Launch KP ?

I used to use (and be able to set up) that plugin but now I can't figure out how to add an item or how to get the selection to show up on the right click menu.

On another note I downloaded a copy of the MobiPocket Reader and it opens a mobi just fine in Calibre when it's set as the Windows default.

On the Menubar Icon: Customize OR Preferences: Plugins: User Plugins:
(on the Customize list) Use the Green Plus

Yep, did all that but got stopped because I couldn't enter any pertinent info (the UI fights me). Besides the way I used to use it was to pick it in the right-click menu and it isn't there and I cannot figure out how to add it (though I remember doing so a while back).

1) you need to have a Tick in the (first) column in the configurator
2) The choice will be greyed out if the chosen format does not match the book.

Thanks, the checkmarks were what I was missing and I finally got the right-click (context) menu to contain Open With.

But it acts the same way, nothing happens, no error no nothing, Sigil works fine from there though.
