Paperwhite and ePub support
Hi! My first post on this forum, I hope I'm in the right section and not posting something that's been asked before.
I have recently ordered a Kindle Paperwhite (KPW), and I have been looking into how to best get ePub support on this device. The options I have found so far are Duokan, CoolReader 3 and Hacked Up Reader. In my understanding, Duokan is an OS that can be installed parallel to the original OS on the KPW, while the other two are "apps" that are launched through the interface for books on the Kindle. Based on this, I have some questions:

Get calibre and, if necessary, The Tools, and convert the ePub to a kindle-native format like mobi or azw3.

Better solution. Return the PW and get a reader that handles ePub natively.

Get an ePub reader, or just use calibre.

Why on Earth did you buy a Kindle if you want ePub support? Get an ePub device.

With azw3, I don't know if ePub support is all that important anymore. I think you can convert from ePub to azw3 with almost no loss of formatting. ePub to mobi was another story. I'd lose drop caps, shaded tables and all sorts of other things.

Conversion with Calibre between epub and mobi is no problem at all. The formats are very similar so you don't loose quality.

mobi doesn't support drop caps, shaded tables or embedded fonts. These features (among a ton of others) were added to the KF8 format. If you have a Kindle that supports KF8, you should convert azw3 to preserve as much formatting as possible.
