Sorry to hear it. I've enjoyed some of his books.

Well, that sucks. And here Amazon just dropped the price of The Rats to $6.59 today.

I had heard he was ill.
I just finished 'The Rats' about 4-5 days ago. Don |

I read The Rats first back in the 70s, I think. One of the first horror novels I remember reading.
I still have the paperback, with the cigarette ad in the middle. |

The Rats was one of my first horror books. He was very good at what he did, a sad loss.

I think The Rats was a bit of a rite of passage in my youth.

I will never forget hearing him being interviewed on Woman's Hour many years ago and describing a visit he made to a windmill (or something similar) situated on the top of a cliff.
I'm not sure if there's a recording of it available anywhere (if so, please do listen to it!), but it should go down in history as one of the BBC's great broadcasting moments. The interviewer - and, I'm sure, everyone listening - was spellbound by the tale. Spoiler:

I'll be starting The Fog in about 1 week (after I finish two books by two other writers), to celebrate his writing and his dedication to the field of horror.

I really recommend Creed. It's not like his other books. It's the most 'literary.' Actually it reads a bit like a Banks book. Really good book. Funny and scary and unputdownable.
I knows lots of kids who began their reading career with the Rats. Unfortunately it ended shortly after, lol. |

I've read several of his books (including all the rat novels) and I used to buy his books for my sister as birthday or Christmas presents.
I haven't read any of his works for a long time now and should try and read one as a tribute. |
