Kindle 3 frozen display
Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone has experienced a similar issue and could offer an advice. I have a Kindle 3 which suddenly froze a few days ago. Tried all troubleshooting and display is completely frozen however the device is recognized by the computer meaning it's likely a display issue rather than total hardware failure. It's out of warranty so Amazon won't replace it. Thanks in advance! |

You've tried resetting it, I assume?

CS may give you a discount on a newer model, which may work for you.

Could be a battery problem. When the battery is dead, the screen won't go blank, or change. I'd put it on a wall charger overnight, and then try rebooting it.

Thanks for the responses.
Yes I tried resetting it, there is absolutely no response from the screen. Tried charging, light eventually eventually turns to green. Another reset didn't have an impact. So this could be either a screen or a battery issue, how do I proceed from here? The thing is I really like this model and don't want to get the non-keyboard or the touch version. |

Try contacting Amazon again. You might get a more sympathetic CS person. Most often they will at least offer you a credit towards a new unit.
If you are in the US: Amazon Kindle customer service (1-866-321-8851) You can probably get a few bucks for the Kindle on eBay if somebody wants to tinker with it or scavenge for parts. |

You could check the developers forum and search to see if anybody has had a similar problem and what they did to fix it.

I had this problem, and it persisted through battery change, Kubrick, etc. Finally, I bought a replacement motherboard, and all is well. No problem with registering the Kindle, which is a worry when dealing with used motherboards which could be from blacklisted Kindles. No problem here:
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/ Fairly fast service (well, 2 weeks at surface rate), decent price, etc. I ordered another motherboard for a second dead Kindle 3. |

sounds like an eink controller fail. since you say usb mode works fine.
Sounds like a replacement job as others have indicated |

Some good advice here, thanks all!
I shall start with wall-charging it for 24 hours and then proceed with all other troubleshooting. |

I had a Kindle 3 with a Frozen Screen and this was the fix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rns1KkRrnxA Basic problem is a connector on the inside got loose. This is if the reset doesn't work. |

I really, really doubt that the original poster is going to care FOUR YEARS after posting the question.
Please don't ignore the large warning message that you're posting to an old thread. It's there for a good reason. |

When my kindle had the problem, I searched for a solution, found this thread, read through this thread and all the other results I could find and I didn't find a solution anywhere. Then I found the problem myself and made the youtube video about the fix for anyone else who might have the same thing. I get nothing from the video (no ads, etc.). It looks like a lot of people just give up and get a new one when there is potentially a simple fix for at least some people who have the problem. |
