How to mark latest additions to Calibre?
Is there a way to mark books that have been added since the last time Calibre was started or since the last import?
I'd like to import a bunch of books to an existing database but want to check their metadata before I delete the original files. So I'd like to know which files I haven't checked yet... i.e. files that I just imported. Thanks for any workflow ideas! |

I use a column called "Status", (I think I created it using preferences, add your own columns using the yes/no option). With that you can mark the books that are ready with a check mark, (type "yes" in the column to get the mark). In this column you can also come up with your own codes to show the status of the book, (ie CM = Check Metadata)

@MelBr, I add batches of 'books' into a library called Review. In there I first decide whether or not I really want the 'book'. If I do then I fix up title, author, metadata etc and use Find Duplicates to check for duplicates with my Main library. As I fix them I move them to my Main library. If I don't want them then I remove them.
When a batch is complete I manually delete the originals, they are always in a folder that has a name indicating source and date of download, so that's easily done. I find using a separate library makes processing of batches of new 'books' easier - and it keeps my Main library unpolluted by duplicates, author name variants etc. I don't do any tagging when 'books' are in Review as I haven't worked out a technique to have a controlled vocabulary for an empty library - but nor have I tried very hard ![]() BR My 'books' are public domain 'papers' from academia, 'reports' from govt agencies, quangos, think tanks etc, 'reprints' from the media etc. |

BetterRed, that's brilliant! Thank you! That also makes sense since the computer I use the most is an MBA which 'only' has 128GB of space and since my library is large, it's best to put it on an external HDD.
I keep all of the books ![]() PS: Do you have any advice on how to setup Calibre lib on an external storage/NAS? Would that warrant a topic of its own? |

@MelBr - glad you liked it - but I think I adapted (filched) it from someone - Agama maybe - standing on shoulders and all that...
MBA ? Master of Busyness Administrivia, Master of Bugger All, Motherboard Bent A...up - OK I give in - what's an MBA computer ![]() Quote:
I believe Kovid and other developers are working on a multi-user network version of Calibre. There are some Web based gadgets - they're in the Calibre Related Tools section - that's all I know about them. Cheers - BR Last edited by BetterRed; 03-09-2013 at 10:25 PM. |

When I decide to move my library off the computer, do I just move the "Calibre Library" folder or should I make a new library on external disk and then "copy" all the files to it? I don't plan on keeping them locally so I'm wondering if I can just move them all. Thanks again! Melanie |

See How do I move my calibre library from one computer to another?
In your case you're just moving from one drive to another but the steps should be similar. |

![]() I do keep my 'Wish List' as empty books, so it won't work in that case as the Date column is the date the record was created, not the date an actual Format existed (last_modified gets bumped frequently, which is a good reason for the Tag as well) |

I eventually guessed that's what it was - whilst riding a wave at Bondi

![]() I gave up trying to get a full understanding on this issue. All of my assertions regarding the updating of the column were true - most of the time. But none of them were true - all of the time. And, whilst theducks and my experiences were similar - they weren't exactly the same ![]() So I have a custom column called last_actioned_date, that I maintain manually; yes it is more work for me - but I want a date that means what I think it means. So for me its no pain to do that, I also record what I did in a last_action custom column. I do occasionally sort on the Last Action Date column. I don't display the standard last_modified date in either the spreadsheet or Book Details. BR BTW : I do NOT regard the fact that I've 'had to' define my own column(s), rather than using the 'out-of-the-box' column as a defect, bug or any other kind of deficiency. My requirements are somewhat idiosyncratic. Last edited by BetterRed; 03-10-2013 at 11:08 PM. Reason: Add the BTW |
