Deleted Loop Device directory
Hi, all
I've a problem: yesterday I'm tryng to configure my kindle with the Extented Linux Functionality Package, for a mistake after an error I've deleted the directory /dev/loop instead that the first loop device (rm -r /dev/loop instead that rm -r -f /dev/loop). Actually I can't mount the .img file and then use the ELP but I think that the problem may be more serious being inherent to a device file... You've an idea of the damn that I done, and how can I solve the problem? Thank you very much. |

PS: Since the Amazon software requires a /dev/loop device to boot - -
do not re-boot it until you replace that directory and its contents. (The one in-use at the moment isn't really gone until it is no longer in-use. *nix file systems work that way.) If you do try to re-boot it while they are missing - bookmark the Kubrick thread now. |

... Kubrick probably only works on Apple devices if Boot Camp is installed.

I hate SoozCamp (& I haven't a windows system installed in the pc) .... I will make a test ... and if not ...I will search another pc...for execute the OS (#@|?!$%&!!!!)...
Of course is not "appropriate" execute it in VMs.... then I'm doing the usbStick with the mb, I saw that it's reported in the readmeFile.... like as Linux. I've only an USB stick of 16GB size with FAT32 fs (a "bit" slow .... probably USB1), it's a problem ?? The dd tool is writing from about half hour.... or more... I hope work properly... if not in mac at least in a ix86 machine (although the arch is the same and in this moment I don't understand why the tool may be not-working under apple machine). Oh, I forgot: You could also try rEFIt. See here for instructions (the only relevant part is the rEFIt one, of course). But I'm not sure whether it works without BootCamp.
Regarding dd: it's normal for it to take a while. You can try to speed it up by setting the blocksize (bs=4096 seems a good choice generally). And of course, make sure that you are writing to the DEVICE, not to a partition on it. (Yes, that will overwrite everything on the USB stick). Last edited by ixtab; 03-05-2013 at 01:41 PM. |
