Reduced price Bibles

HarperCollins and Zondervan (owned by HarperCollins) have drastically reduced prices on several Bibles. These seem to be publisher prices at the moment, so if you have a favorite seller other than the three I've linked, check there first.

The HarperCollins ebook of the New American Bible Revised Edition is $1.99. Note that this is a Catholic Bible and so includes the Apocrypha.

Barnes & Noble
Kobo
Amazon

The NIV is $4.99 (make sure you don't get just the New Testament, which is the same price!)

Barnes & Noble
Kobo
Amazon

The NIV Study Bible is $6.99 (there are several ebook editions, some still marked $19.99).

Barnes & Noble
Kobo
Amazon

There may be others.

Harper Bibles has put several editions of the NRSV on sale for $3.99 at most sellers (including Amazon, B&N and Kobo), rather than the regular $9.99. Books on Board, though, has a fixed discount on top of the sale price making the final price $2.66!

Here are links at Books on Board:

NRSV Catholic Edition

NRSV with the Apocrypha

NRSV without the Apocrypha

The Green Bible

Pick your poison and enjoy!

I mentioned before that the New American Bible was on sale for $1.99, but I just noticed that it's currently $1.33 at Books on Board (in case $1.99 wasn't quite cheap enough for you).

That's a sin to call a Bible an American Bible. The Catholic religion should be ashamed of themselves.

No one Bible can represent an entire country as no country is made up of people of one religion.

It's just a name and that version has been around since 1970.

Also, the American Standard version since 1901 and the New American Standard Bible since 1971.

There's also the Jerusalem Bible which is not just for that city.

Don't forget the King James bible. I've never read it myself, but I know plenty of people who have and hardly any of them are called King James

And King James only commissioned the translation, not performed it... BTW, the "official name" of the KJV is "The Authorized Version."

On a more serious note, the reason the ASV and the American Version of the Catholic Bible are called "American" is that they use American English syntax, spelling, and punctuation as opposed to British English (or the Queen's English).

Free English Standard Version Bible

The friend I loaned my Nook STR to asked for an epub Bible. I found the ESV Classic Reference Bible available for free from its publisher, Crossways. She loves how well indexed it is, and how easy it is to navigate.

It comes in either epub or mobi (non-DRM, I think) at:

http://www.crossway.org/ebooks/esv-c...e-bible-ebook/

I downloaded it for free from Barnes & Noble before discovering the publisher offered it directly. It came with DRM. Also bugs me that B&N offers this epub for free, but also have it on another page for $10.19 (in case you don't stumble across their free version.)

The big reason that I like Crossway's store is that, in addition to being DRM-free, you can download both Mobi (Kindle) and EPUB formats with the same purchase.

Other Bibles that are available for free:

The Holman Christian Standard Bible is available as a DRM-free EPUB from the publisher. It's also free at Amazon for the Kindle.

The New World Translation can be downloaded as DRM-free EPUB or PDF from Watch Tower.

The KJV can be downloaded from the LDS (Mormon) website along with The Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants. The EPUB and Mobi versions are pretty lackluster (no paragraphs, limited navigation, no notes), but the PDFs are well-done, searchable scans of the printed versions.

It's also worth noting that a number of translations are available at Kobo for less than $10 even when not on sale and with the 30%-35% off codes that are available, come in at around $5.

The Living Bible for $9.39 (or $6.57 at 30% off)

NKJV, NCV, GOD'S WORD Translation and CEB are all $7.69 ($5.38 at 30% off).

Lockman's NASB is cheap at Amazon and Christianbook, but the formatting is awful and it doesn't have footnotes. If you really want the NASB, you're better off springing for one of the study Bible editions.

Free and Bargain Bibles

Since I've found myself adding new threads for Bibles every few days lately, I've decided to just create one thread and add to it.

Zondervan has two kids' Bibles on sale for $3.99:

NIrV Kids Quest Study Bible (normally $10.99):
Amazon
B&N
Kobo

Adventure Bible for Early Readers (normally $14.99):
Amazon
B&N
Kobo

Both of these are the New International Reader's Version (NIrV) which at a third-grade reading level and is marketed for early readers and those for whom English is a second language. A no-frills edition is also available for the (not sale) price of $4.99.

There are a few editions of the NIV that are currently $6.99 (or a few cents cheaper at Amazon and Christianbook). This isn't as good a price as others have been lately, but someone might find a gem that they've been wanting and they're normally in the neighborhood of $10.99.

First up is the Holy Bible: Stock Car Racing Edition. I've been tempted to buy it for the kitsch value alone.

Adventure Bible: NIV Edition (for kids):

If you happen to search for the Adventure Bible at Amazon rather than using the link, I'll warn you that there are three official editions (published by Zondervan, Zonderkidz or HarperCollins) and two counterfeit ones. Of the three official ones, only one is $6.44 (the others are around $10 and one of those is a preorder for an edition being released in June). Read the descriptions carefully!

The New Living Translation is available at Amazon for $3.90. This one must be an Amazon only sale, because all the other stores I checked are regular price (~$10).
