Kindle App on an Android device

I've transferred a mobi file and cover image but no matter where I put the image when I open the app the book doesn't have a cover.

I've even opened it up in calibre added the cover image and then saved it again.

When I looked online they said that covers should be in a directory named covers but putting it there has the same effect.

Any help?

You don't a cover image file. Make sure the embedded cover image is not too large or it wont display. 450x680 is the size I use. The best thing to do is set up your App email on Amazon's Manage your kindle page and email the book to your Kindle app then the cover will show up but you will need to force close the Kindle app and reopen to get it generate the cover.

Yep. Very important. It's one of the reason I stop using the Kindle Fire because I got tired of missing covers and having to jump through hoops to get them to generate.

The generic cover displays the title only when it doesn't generate. Do you know how hard it is too find a book when it doesn't show the title and author? I can recognize a book by it's cover otherwise I forget what it is.

It seems likely that covers are more important to people (e.g. me, and Blossom?) who tend to be "visual" thinkers, and less so for verbal thinkers.

Like Blossom, I have a really hard time remembering books' names, but if I see the cover, I will instantly remember the book if I've read it, even though I've read tens of thousands of books in my lifetime.

Re-issues of DTBs with new covers have sometimes fooled me. In olden times I learned to browse a few pages of older books before buying or borrowing in order to avoid the sinking feeling I used to get as I cracked the only book I'd brought on the plane with me, only to realize I'd already read it. With eBooks, I guess I'll be dependent on Calibre to tell me when I've already read something. At least there will be no problem with running out of reading material while travelling!

If covers were not that important, how do you explain the Paperwhite with the start of eink Kindles having browse books by cover?

In a word, yes.

Oh, it's not as important as the guts of a book, but a cover is part of the overall experience (for me at least) and the visual identity of the work.

I agree with both of you, I have visual memory and forget names, very obvious when shopping for groceries, can't think of brand names at times but, remember what the box/jar looks like.
