Best twist?
I do appreciate a good, unexpected twist or twists... like the first time I watched The Sixth Sense. Any such books to recommend?
Already got Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Looking for more. Doesn't necessarily has to be in the crime/thriller/mystery genre. Please, no spoilers! ![]() |

I've recently finished The Pines by Blake Crouch and really enjoyed it. The basic premise is that a Secret Service Agent wakes in a field in a little town called Wayward Pines with no real memory of how he got there or why, and all of his attempts to discover what has happened and to try to leave the town are frustrated by the people and the terrain. The reveal, when it finally comes, is a doozy. A fairly quick and very satisfying read, which I got free via the Amazon Prime lending library.

I like a good twist, too, so I'll be watching this. I recently enjoyed Gone Girl which has some good twists in it!

A book I've recently read that falls into that category is Malice Aforethought, by Francis Iles. Even though you know who the murderer is at the outset, the denouement still comes as a complete surprise.

If you enjoy short stories, O. Henry was famous for surprise endings.
His stories are public domain and available online here. Recommended: The Gift of the Magi The Ransom of Red Chief A Retrieved Reformation The Last Leaf |

The Pines was INCREDIBLE. I had to message him on facbook to thank him for lack of getting work done. I got so wrapped up in it I lost track of time The other is Enders Game for me. |

I remember reading both The Gift of the Magi & The Monkey's Paw in high school. I think plot twists was the very theme our teacher was working on that week; we read the stories back to back.

Great post, I love a good twist! When I saw this post, 2 books sprang to mind immediately. Gentleman & Players by Joanne Harris, and Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane both have absolutely jaw-dropping, deliciously wicked twists. In both cases, I stared incredulously at the pages, thinking: "WTF??"
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had some great twists & turns & I especially enjoyed the sudden & jarring shift into violence near the end which really got my pulse going. Also, someone mentioned Gone Girl and I would agree, very good book that certainly had a nasty little twist in it. |

Turow's Presumed Innocent had a great twist, imo.

Oh, I remembered another one that had a twist ending I really liked - Stephen Dobyns' The Church of Dead Girls.

I guess I'm going to have to bump Pines closer to the top of my TBR list... if I want to read it before the M. Night Shyamalan miniseries comes out!
