Mini Help Needed with Mini and PDFs!

Hi All,

I just picked up a mini with the hopes of handing either the Mini or my beloved PRS 650 to my grandma to read.

We both read Chinese extensively, and at my level of technical expertise (or a lack thereof), that means tons of PDFs.

The PDFs worked beautifully for Sony's 6 inch screen, but somehow is VERY very unreadable on the Kobo mini. I have to zoom in and move around the page to navigate the PDF.

My question is, is there a way to make PDF reading more ideal on the Mini? Anything I can use to convert my PDFs for the 5" screen maybe??

While I LOVE how the Mini handles english books, if I can't make Chinese reading work, I will probably have to return it...

I'm depressed just thinking about it.

On Kobo, I guess, epubs would give you better results.

Kobo ereaders do a pretty bad job of handling PDFs.
You're far better off installing calibre and converting them to epubs.

Thanks guys. ePub won't work for me since my PDFs are all in Chinese.
It's okay. This mini will find a home at one of my friend's house over christmas.

Do you mean saying that your PDF's are not unicode encoded? Otherwise it should be possible to convert them to epubs.

But that could (depending on the type of PDF) call for OCR conversion, and we know that is hard enough on western character sets!

The PDFs started as text files. I batch converted them to PDFs. They read well on my Sony ereader, and display text correctly on the Mini. The problem is the size of the PDF pages. The PDFs were converted for 6 inch screens or something, so while they read beautifully on my Sony, don't work at all for the Mini. I have to zoom in on the page to be able to see the words. But when you zoom in on the mini, you have to shift around the page to read all the words, which gets quite annoying.

Hope that helps clarify the problem?

To my mind the best way would be to start again from the text files and convert them to epubs.
