I read the novel for the first time recently, and while the names, and the general themes, were familiar through countless references in other books, movies and so on, it wasn't what I expected, specially the structure. Good value, though.
I suppose that, like Frankenstein's monster, were are all too often familiar with the legendary character without having read the original source. Boris Karloff's interpretation of the Monster (not to mention Fred Gwynne's!) tends to dominate our minds. Happy Birthday Mr Stoker--wherever you are (or perhaps whatever you are!)! |

I read Dracula about a year or so ago and to be frank, I did not enjoy it at all, I found it extremely boring. The first few chapters were good but the final chapters were dull and I recall the ending being awfully rushed.

Oh now it is a happy birthday for Bram Stoker ? Why does it have to be a happy birthday for him and not for me ? What's he ever done for that ? apart from telling us about some psycho weirdo that has nothing better to do than suck the blood of other people seldom with their consent while roaming his lands at night cause he's got sensitive skin and no Nivea cream for sun protection ?
People better wish me a happy birthday a century after I die and that's all there is to it ![]() |

I can't even get close to having Dracula on my tbr. I always hear how terrible it is. I'm sure that It's great, but I think it will be terrible for some reason.
Happy Birthday, Sir Quexos. |

All this time and I'd never realised that Bram was short for Abraham.
