Red face PDF on the Cybook

Hi,

i am also interested in purchasing a cybook. The main problem is that almost all the documents i read are in pdf. I have a bunch of technical documents and pdf's containing programming code. I would like to know how well the cybook handles pdf documents. Are there any pictures, screenshots or videos out there that show the cybook displaying pdf's?

Thanks you!

I can just tell you, that you will not be able to read any A4 or letter formatted technical documents with code o the CyBook. If you send me a sample, i will take a picture of half a page in landscape mode. The screen of the CyBook is simply not big enough and there is no zoom functionality yet.

Bookeen have said that they will, in a future firmware release, be adding "half page" and "quarter page" display modes for PDF files. This should make things somewhat better, but no device with a 6" screen is ever going to be "good" for displaying A4/Letter sized PDFs. If displaying such files is an important consideration, you'd be a lot better off with an iLiad than a CyBook.

Besides the already mentioned incompatibility between the page and display size, another flaw cumbers the use as a pdf reader: random crashes while reading pdfs.....

Are the crashes really random, or do specific PDFs always cause a crash?

I can reproduce the crashes, same pdf, same page. I can even view the whole pdf except this particular page.

PDFLRF does a pretty good job altering the PDF so it is legible on the 500/505. But without any modifying of the PDF, most PDF are formatted for the printed bage at 8.5x11" (letter size) and do not look all that wonderful on a 6" screen.

Sony has said they are doing something with PDF. But until it happens, we won't know just what exactly and how well PDF will display. vs. how poorly it displays now.

That's what I mean - it's not a "random" crash, is it; there's something on that specific page that the Gen3 can't handle. Could you send it Bookeen for them to investigate? They can't fix if they don't know about it!
