Mobi IS a Kindle format! The Kindle actually supports a variety of formats - are you looking to use a specific one?

Not really. I just assumed the native kindle format was the best use on a kindle.
Will the mobi format be as good?
What do you recommend as the best generic format? (I'll be reading on calibre on my laptop and something on my blackberry - maybe overdrive but havn't downloaded it yet).
If I did want to change the current output format how would I do it?
Many thanks for the swift response!

mobi IS historically the native Kindle format and is an Amazon proprietary format! The newer Kindle's now support some additional proprietary Amazon formats such as KF8 and AZW but mobi is still your most portable format across different models of Kindle.

The format most other reading devices use is epub. this is an open standard and not tied to any vendor. Unfortunately Kindle's cannot handle this format. If the files are nor DRM protected then Calibre can convert between these formats.
