				Sony Reader deals

Hello everyone, I'm going to be starting a job with a lot of travel pretty soon. I'm planning on getting a Sony Reader as a bit of a reward. My question is whether or not I should just bite the bullet and pay the $299 or if you guys think there will be a sale or something relatively soon. What do you guys think? |

Bite the bullet. The cheapest price I saw during the holiday sale season was $279 but from a company I had never heard of. For $20, I'd rather buy from a company I am familiar with. It is unlikely you will find a discount on the Reader any time soon.

I don't see any kind of sale or price reduction anytime soon. Right now the supply of screens appears to be a bottleneck & all the 6" devices (Reader, Kindle, Cybook) are selling out everything the manufacturers have available. No need to put them on sale when you can't keep them in stock at regular price.

I ordered mine online from Sams Club at 270-something. Of course, with shipping and tax it ended up to be about the same price. Buy.com had a great deal (and no tax) but they sold out a few days ago. But as least as of last weekend, there were not many places that actually HAD the Sony Reader. I only found Sams and some place I've not heard of. |

You can "optimize" a bit the cost of the Reader. I got one last week from CostCentral for 266 shipped. They run out of stock quickly, but their back-in-stock e-mail notification works well. You can also get one for ~199$ from SonyStyle, but you'll probably have to wait more since they're backordered. First, get a SonyCard using this offer. If you have a good credit score, you'll get an instant approval and the card data that you can use for online purchases. The card offer nets you 100$ cashback for 299$ spent at SonyStyle. This makes the Reader 300$ - 100$ + tax + free 1-day ship = ~220$ shipped. Use fatwallet referral to get another 21$ back. Right now the estimated ship date is Jan 28th. Another discount is to sign up for Borders "club card" so you get direct credit for this purchase as well as possible coupon values. Can't do better than Trek's SonyStyle suggestion though!

Also, FYI, when I went and got mine at the Sony Style store at the mall, they offered me the $100 deal with the Sony credit card. They had them in stock as well. I didn't do it because I think credit is as evil as "the Dark Side", but you could see if there's store nearby.

That sounds pretty good. Do you know if they are wankers about canceling the card? | |

I have two SonyCards (one is from the 60$ PRS-500 deal) but I haven't tried canceling yet so I do not know. My guess is that you will have zero problems.

Buy.com is selling 505 for $272. With a 5% off coupon (http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=84773074) you can cut the price to $258.3 with free shipping, which is a pretty good deal. I bought a blue one a few days ago. But now they are "Temporarily Sold Out". You can still put an order if you don't mind waiting.

Someone mentioned that they were offered at some Costco stores. If there is one near you it may be worth it to check it out. I have had zero problems with electronics from Costco. (I have not looked at my local Costco so I cannot comment on the Sony Reader story.)
