Onyxboox M92 and very large epubs

I have 6,482 page epub (Adobe DRM) of the Bible on my M92. The file is only 5mb. There is extensive hyper linking in the bible - every chapter (which if you're not a regular Bible reader, these can be as short as two paragraphs - so a LOT of chapters) is hyperlinked to the TOC. It takes somewhere around 10 minutes to load, and then when I click on a link to a chapter, the device freezes up (it will go to standby and back on pressing the power button, but it won't respond to any other button) for several moments. Because I had pressed the back key, I still don't even know if it would have opened the chapter. Needless to say, this magnitude of a delay makes the file unusable.

I am surprised that the device is having this difficulty, as I have a 35Mb simple PDF file that it opens reasonably quickly and easily navigates.

What - if anything - can I do to make this file usable (bearing in mind that I don't want to lose the TOC functionality?)

The problem in your file is not necessarily related to its size or the number of hyperlinks. Something else may have been implemented in a complex or non-standard way.

If you want to make changes to the file to make it usable, the first thing you'll need to do is remove the DRM. We cannot tell you here how to do that, but Apprentice Alf can; google for his blog.

Are you using Calibre? If so, there is a simple trick that often helps to make an unruly epub behave: load the file (without DRM) in Calibre and convert it from epub to epub.

I appreciate the response. Those were good ideas, and I tried them, but the resulting file still takes more than 10 minutes to load. I'd like to upload the file for others to see and analyze, but it is still a copyrighted translation, so I don't think I can.
