Library size limits?

Over on another forum I frequent, people are asking whether there's a limit to the number of books one can have in any given one calibre library - I don't think there is a technical limit, but is there a practical one (response times get slow, for example)?

thanks,

Probably (depending on hardware and patience ), but on my 4GB Core i5 a 50K books library works just fine. Searches or looking for duplicates with the Find Duplicates plugin run in seconds.

Creating a somewhat complicated catalog is the one thing that runs into problems as it needs more RAM than my 32 bits Win7 can give it; the worker process blows up when it hits the 2GB process limit.

My Slow P4 gives Ellie (the Cat in the picture) some chance at getting attention
