Updated K3 and KF8: No Page Numbers
I downloaded the KF8 sample offered by Amazon, loaded it into my updated
K3 via Calibre and the page numbers aren't there anymore. Tried a couple books converted to KF8 by Caliber and have the same results. No more page numbers. Is it happening to you too? ![]() |

@jolfe: Yep, the K3 doesn't like the APNX file generated by Calibre with KF8 files right now. Looking into it. No issues on the Touch, and, since I've never heard someone complaining, the K4 either.
Stuff straight from Amazon/Archive work fine, though (provided page numbers are available, and you don't overwrite them with the Calibre one). |

NiLuJe, this is what's happening:
I downloaded Kindle Format 8 Sample and loaded it directly (without Calibre) to my K3: No page numbers. I downloaded Kindle Format 8 Sample, saved it as PDF in Calibre and loaded it to my K3: Page numbers are back. After the update, page numbers seem to be working with all formats except KF8 and MOBI ("new" MOBI, which includes KF8. "Old" MOBI also shows pages perfectly) Now it seems to me that it has nothing to with Caliber, since the pages won't work either with the Sample book loaded directly into the K3. @jolfe: If you sideload a file without Calibre, there won't be page numbers, ever. They're stored in an extra file.
If it's a proper book from Amazon, and you enable wifi on your device, there's a chance it might pull the file from Amazon itself. No idea if that ever happens with samples, though. The only thing I'm sure of is when you pull something from your Archive, or send an item through your MYK page, then, yes, it will pull all the sidecar crap with it, including page number. |

OK, I understand that the Amazon Sample Book, downloaded directly into the K3, may not include page numbres.
Still, why not page numbers either when the book is loaded through Caliber in the two above mentioned formats, and only in those formats? I'm just trying to find out if other people are having this same problem or if it is just me. Can someone please confirm if you are able to see page numbers in any KF8 book after you took the 3.4 upgrade in your K3? Thanks in advance. |

@jolfe: because FW 3.4 expects a slightly differently formatted APNX file for KF8 files.
I've posted a first dirty version of a patch to 'fix' it in the original calibre thread. |

Not sure if it's the same one being mentioned here, but there is a sample on this page...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000729511 ...it's on the right side, the last item under KindleGen Examples. It's a zip with the compiled book and the source materials. |

FWIW, the fix to the issue mentioned by the OP will be in Calibre's next release (0.8.70)
