JD Power Rates Tablet consumer statisfaction

From TechCrunch:
http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/13/app...nes-for-usage/

Quote:
This is the first time that the influential pollster has tracked U.S. consumers on tablet usage — it is known for its mobile handset rankings, which Apple also topped for smartphones last week.

Amazon and its Kindle Fire tablet are, however, nipping at Apple’s heels: the two were separated by only six points, with Amazon scoring particularly well because of its low price. Final tallies for the two brands were Apple at 848 and Amazon at 842, on a scale of 1,000.

Both scored higher than the industry average of 832, with Samsung, Acer, Barnes & Noble and HP rounding out the top rankings in the list, all below the industry average.
They also tracked usage and found (surprise!) that people who used tablets the most liked tablets the most. Wow!

They did find that heavy video usage correlates with higher satisfaction by a 45 point margin. (Hmm, iTunes... Prime Video...)

Not sure how what if anything that spread means in real-world terms, but the order of finish seems about right given what we know of visibility and sales numbers.

Not too sure about who they got to take that survey, the 'traditional' phone numbers don't really make sense.

The data is meaningless since it doesn't even go into the significance of the numbers (e.g. how are scores derived, how much certainty is there in the results).

In other news, people with an Obama sticker on their prefer Obama to Romney at a higher rate than people with a Romney sticker on their car while people with a Ron Paul sticker on their car prefer some other candidate.

Really, is this surprising?

I bet that people who bought tablets for themselves liked tablets better than people who received them as gifts and that satisfaction was higher among those who have purchased two or more tablets.

Granted.

But when people make really really obvious statements they come across as stupid.

It hasn't rained in 280 days and is really dry.
People that own Land Rovers really like them.
People with more than five hundred pairs of shoes in their closet really like shoes.

"Who would have thought?"

Which is why I singled it out for a bit of snark.

This first foray into tablet satisfaction rankings leaves more than a bit to be desired. But at least somebody is trying.
And if it's anything like their car rankings, its going to show up in somebody's ads before long.
