Paperwhite is best for multitasking lefthanders!
I just saw the Amazon commercial again, and realized that the Paperwhite piece of the commercial only works with a lefthander!
The woman is brushing her teeth and reading and flipping a page with the other hand. This only works because she is a lefthander and thus has the right hand available to flip pages. I actually do sometimes read while brushing my teeth, with enlarged font, on my K4, so I can use my left hand for page turns. ...just sayin.... Last edited by xendula; 09-09-2012 at 10:30 PM. DL and read the User Guide for the Kindle Touch. I suspect the page turning will be similar on the PW. If so it will be configurable to help LH and RH get it to their liking. You will probably be able to turn by tapping as well as swiping. To say the PW was made just for LH is a leap from reality I think.

Jack, I never said it was "just made for LH"; I said it was "best" for lefthanders when multitasking.
Sure, I can go into the settings and change that, but when flipping back and forth between hands, that's not really convenient. Last edited by xendula; 09-10-2012 at 01:02 AM. Reason: To include quote |

With one-handed reading, tapping to turn pages is only comfortable if you're holding the kindle in your right hand. Holding it in your left hand you have to swipe (which isn't a problem) or try to reach across with your thumb to the other side.
So where are these settings to switch from right to left? I can't find them. |

I'm sure the "easy reach" tap zones are exactly the same as the Kindle Touch:

You can do either a tap or a swipe on the Kindle, but personally I prefer the tap. There are some screens (eg the library listing on the home page) where you HAVE to do a swipe to turn the page, because a tap opens a book.

I usually hold it in my right hand and had forgotten that the forward page turn zone was so wide. I don't typically read while brushing my teeth.

Ooh, I did not realize the forward zone was so large in comparison! My bet!

The best thing if you regularly switch between holding it in your left and right hand, though, are still the physical buttons on the non-touch models.

I find that the "page forward" zone is easy enough to reach with my left thumb when holding with my left hand.
That said, I usually use my right hand anyway. |

Assuming you hold it in your right hand and tap by mistake you can't go back a page without using your other hand or having a huge thumb?
Is there any way to configure it so that there's a thin strip down both sides all the time? So an edge tap can always be a page back and the rest page forward? |
