Subterranean Press $2.99 [Horror/SF/Fant] (Amazon/BN) (US)

All of their titles have been reduced to $2.99 (mostly from $4.99) at Amazon and B&N. Unknown if this is permanent or temporary. (The $.99 ones are short stories.)

Amazon

B&N

Of note, some new Robert McCammon titles that have been reduced:

Bethany's Sin

Quote:
Bethany’s Sin is a tiny, picturesque village in rural Pennsylvania. Its tree-lined streets, beautiful houses, and manicured exteriors offer—or appear to offer—both peace and a place of refuge. Evan Reid, a man haunted by his memories of the Vietnam War and by a history of viscerally disturbing dreams, comes to the village with his wife and daughter, hoping to make a fresh start after a series of discouraging setbacks. At first, all goes as planned. Evan resumes his career as a freelance writer while his wife, Kay, begins teaching math at a local college. But there are things going on in Bethany’s Sin that no one wants to talk about: unexplained disappearances, houses that stand strangely vacant, half glimpsed figures that appear to be female, the impossible sound of hoof beats in the night. At the center of it all stands a single imposing woman: Dr. Kathryn Drago, a scholar and community leader who holds the key to the mysteries that enshroud the town.
The Providence Rider

Quote:
The Providence Rider is the fourth standalone installment in the extraordinary series of historical thrillers featuring Matthew Corbett, professional problem solver. The narrative begins in the winter of 1703, with Matthew still haunted by his lethal encounter with notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter. When an unexplained series of explosions rocks his Manhattan neighborhood, Matthew finds himself forced to confront a new and unexpected problem. Someone is trying—and trying very hard—to get his attention. That someone is a shadowy figure from out of Matthew’s past: the elusive Professor Fell. The professor, it turns out, has a problem of his own, one that requires the exclusive services of Matthew Corbett.

The ensuing narrative moves swiftly and gracefully from the emerging metropolis of New York City to Pendulum Island in the remote Bermudas. In the course of his journey, Matthew encounters a truly Dickensian assortment of memorable, often grotesque, antagonists. These include Sirki, the giant, deceptively soft-spoken East Indian killer, Dr. Jonathan Gentry, an expert in exotic potions with a substance abuse problem of his own, the beautiful but murderous Aria Chillany, and, of course, the master manipulator and “Emperor of Crime” on two continents, Professor Fell himself. The result is both an exquisitely constructed novel of suspense and a meticulous recreation of a bygone era.
Mister Slaughter had been reduced to $2.99 a couple of years ago, went back up to $4.99 and is now down to $2.99 again.

Quote:
The world of Colonial America comes vibrantly to life in this masterful new historical thriller by Robert McCammon. The latest entry in the popular Matthew Corbett series, which began with Speaks the Nightbird and continued in The Queen of Bedlam, Mister Slaughter opens in the emerging metropolis of New York City in 1702, and proceeds to take both Matthew and the reader on an unforgettable journey of horror, violence, and personal discovery.

The journey begins when Matthew, now an apprentice “problem solver” for the London-based Herrald Agency, accepts an unusual and hazardous commission. Together with his colleague, Hudson Greathouse, he agrees to escort the notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum outside Philadelphia to the docks of New York. Along the way, Slaughter makes his captors a surprising--and extremely tempting--offer. Their response to this offer will alter the course of the novel, setting in motion a series of astonishing, ultimately catastrophic events.

Mister Slaughter is at once a classic portrait of an archetypal serial killer and an exquisitely detailed account of a fledgling nation still in the process of inventing itself. Suspenseful, illuminating, never less than compulsively readable, it is, by any measure, an extraordinary achievement, the largest accomplishment to date from one of our most gifted--and necessary--writers.

If I didn't already own it, I would be running (digitally, of course) to buy the Chronicles of Master Li and Number 10 Ox. At $2.99, this is an absolute steal for one of the best fantasy omnibuses you'll ever get your hands on. Brilliant, funny, moving, and it includes the World Fantasy Award winning novel, Bridge of Birds.

And for fans of weird fiction, I also highly recommend both Grimscribe and Noctuary by Thomas Ligotti. I didn't even realize these were available as ebooks. Ligotti is, in my humble opinion, the best writer in horror. His stories are eerie, dark, ambient fever dreams. Both books are easily worth the purchase at thrice the price, especially if you prefer your horror to more evocative than blood and guts.

Anyway, just a few recommendations, and a special thanks, NightBird, for the great info. I would have given you karma, but the board won't let me yet.

Thanks for posting. I have to check this out. I've seen it recommended elsewhere, also, but I have never read this author.

LOL - I bought both of the Ligotti books, too. I already have Teatro Grottesco.

Already had a couple of these from previous price drops, but I have bought 11 (!) more so far: all of the ones people recommended, plus others. As if I needed to spend all that money. Thanks a lot, NightBird.

And thanks to the others with recommendations.

And who knows when I'll read these. I already have a huge "pile" of unread e-books. AND I finally decided to read Steven Erikson's 10-volume Malazan series in paper format (had read some awhile back but decided to stop until the series was completed). Am about halfway through first book, so that will take awhile. Jeez.

Well, I felt I had to take advantage of this in cases prices go back up, since I have wanted some of these.

A page at Subterranean Press's website says their sale will run through September. If you visit the ebook list at their website and click through to any title, there are links to that title for Kobo as well as Amazon and BN.

I've read some of Elizabeth Bear's steampunk-y vampire detective novels/collections (the first being New Amsterdam), which might appeal to some historical mystery readers as well. I liked rather than loved the books, but steampunk and vampires aren't particular interests of mine, and I thought Bear writes well.
