Transferring details

I have a Kindle & use Calibre. I have recently got a new Computer & my library of books is on an external hard drive. Whatever I do, I don't seem to be able to get it on to the new machine. Copy & paste does not work. There are some 5,000 books & I would like to be able to do it in one operation. Please keep it simple! Many thanks.

Use the Add button on the left in calibre, click the drop down arrow and select "Add books from directories, including sub-directories" pick the folder on the external drive and click OK.

I now don't know if it was me or the programme as I tried this before without success, have now updated again (seems to be a new version nearly every day!) & tried again & it has worked perfectly. Many thanks for your help.
