Help Please- Add and Convert Books and Download Metadata not working???

Hiya

New to the forums and only recently started using Calibre, which I LOVE.

But...in the last few days I cant seem to add or convert books or download any metadata.

Can anyone help please??? There is probably a very simple solution...

I felt a Shot gun blast go past.

You basically are complaining that almost nothing works.
Is your computer turned ON?
Is the user sober enough to run a program or give specific and DETAILED feedback for EACH task failure?

@Gorgeousbird; have you thought that maybe giving some more info might help.

We are njot mind readers; we can't tell what errors or pblems you ARE having.

Before any of us can help you, you need to help yourself and give more info as to what IS hasppening; what error messages are being produced, etc.

Hi Peter/anyone else who can advise

As the first post I was unsure what details were required so just chose to be basic with the information I gave. .Without searching through loads of threads I was not sure if it is a problem that other users have experienced.

So this is what happens...

a) When I try to add books, the "add books" box pops up but the progress bar stays on 0% with the abort button showing below. Nothing happens so I just click abort.

b) When I try to convert, the jobs seems to take forever then when I try to view the job, the progress bar tells me the file is unavailable. When I click on show job details it tells me that there are no details available. When I then try to stop selected jobs the "are you sure" box pop up, I click yes and nothing happens to stop the job trying to convert. I then have to use th task manager to stop it trying.

c) With the metadata, it comes up with Failed to download metadata. Click "show details" to see details. The details are;

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\metadata\single_download.py" , line 407, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\simple_worker.py", line 154, in fork_job
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\launch.py", line 215, in __call__
File "subprocess.py", line 679, in __init__
File "subprocess.py", line 896, in _execute_child
WindowsError: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified

What is really strange is that the day it stopped working I had been in the middle of adding books and took a break. When I came back to my laptop it was as above.

I have rebooted many times to see if it was just a one off glitch but no. Have also wondered if it's something to do with my preferences, but I can't see anything that would cause a problem there.

I am using version 0.8.64 as I always update and have also wondered if this is the problem but I don't think it can be as I am sure that I had already been using the updated version.

Please help!!!

Uninstall, delete C:\\Program Files\\Calibre2
or wherever you chose to install calibre). Then re-install. And
dont worry, uninstalling will not affect your books/settings.
