Two Questions
First, what do you guys think of the $109 Kindle Non touch, Non keyboard as a reader? I am used to the keyboard one. Will I find this one too small to hold?
Second, just how intrusive is the special offers Kindles? Is it really bothersome when you are reading? Fifty dollars is fifty dollars for the 3G one. Left my Kindle 3 3g on top of a cab, and need another one soon. Thanks for all your help. |

Get the $79 model. The ads aren't intrusive at all. They only show up as screensavers and a small panel at the bottom of the home page. The ads never appear inside a book.
I went from the K3 with Special Offers to the K4 with ads. I was happy to ditch the keyboard. I considered it unnecessary bulk and definitely prefer the smaller size and weight of the K4. If you have an Amazon Rewards Visa, you can get the K4 for 40% off; making it a bit over $47. If you don't have the card and qualify for one, you'll get an instant $50 gift card; making the K4 free. offer details |

The ads only show up when you're not reading. Both as the "screensaver" and as a small banner on the home screen where you browse your books.

IMHO I rather like having the special offers around wether I claim one or not. I think of them as screen blankers that amazon changes every few days for me, if I had a nonadd supported kindle I would need to change the screen blankers manually this way amazon does that for me. Although I do not quite understand how Amazon can do that when I am not home and connected to my wireless network. There is something going on here that I do not understand.

I don't mind the adverts on the screen savers. It is variety over the dead authors.

My guess would be that they get downloaded along with details of when they should be displayed. So, for instance, if you connect on 1st August, your Kindle might download some adverts to show immediately and some to show only on/after 8th August. The second set of adverts would start showing on 8th August even if you hadn't connected in the meantime.

They are mostly for amazon daily deals and sometimes for Verizon 4G, right now I have a rather generic ad for a ultra book, does not give a maker for the product. I was up in West VA some time ago and the kindle seemed to be showing a new add that it seemed to have downloaded while I was in West VA.

Yeah, that's been a bit of a bummer. Now, all I get are local ads (some of which have been good...like a spa package I got for the wife and 50% off registration for a Spartan Race I took advantage of).

I check my AmazonLocal ads online. It's easier than messing with them on my Kindle. |
