And they're hiring.

They're taking Content seriously.
Publishing, Movie studio, gaming studio.
Anybody got a music studio for sale? Sony, maybe?

an app developer would want to tie themselves so exclusively to Facebook. It sounds like you give them your wallet and checkbook and say, "manage them for me, keep what you want and tell me when I go broke!"

There are an awful lot of people who play facebook games, and I'd guess many of them don't play anything else. I don't really get that mindset myself, but I know it exists.

As far as Amazon moving into gaming. I expect more of the same in the future as Amazon expands into content creation in other fields. It's nothing new to them.

"According to a study last fall by Information Solutions Group, 42% of Internet users in the U.S. had played a social media game in the previous three months, up from 28% a year earlier. Social media game publisher Zynga Inc. said daily users grew to 54 million in the fourth quarter of 2011, up 13% from the same period in 2010.

"They are clearly the hottest or fastest growing sector of the video game market," said Garth Chouteau, a spokesman for Popcap, a software company and publisher of Bejeweled Blitz and Zuma Blitz. "It is a phenomenon of sorts. You have hundreds of millions of people playing these social games on a regular basis. There was no playing social games four or five years ago."

I have a facebook account - it's the only way I can keep track of my kids sometimes - but I don't do FB games. i also use adblock plus, so they don't get advertising money from me. i'm evil that way.

As far as I know online gambling isn't legal in the US (though I don't think the constitutionality is completely settled), so it's not likely to appear on Facebook.

Wrong... the "Bingo Frendzy" app has come from Gamesys for "adults" only... sorry that should be UK Facebook members only...
