Lately when I do a search, instead of just showing the items that match the search and nothing else, everything is still shown, and the matching items are just highlit. I have a lot of books in Calibre, and it's difficult to find the search results when there's no way to "find next" for the search results.
I had this problem before with Calibre, uninstalled it completely, installed a new copy - and now it's back. I'm not entirely sure what happened, except that I used the Find Duplicates plugin (which is wonderful) both times. I have custom columns set up now and I'd really like to avoid going through the whole uninstall, reinstall thing again. Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else? I've put a screen capture at http://technomom.com/calibresearch.jpg in case my description is unclear. Thanks! Cyn |

There is a button just to the right of the Search text field that toggles between filter and highlight mode for search results. I suspect you accidentally clicked it.

Just to explain what happened - if you use Find Duplicates, then by default it will put calibre into that "highlight search" mode (it is not the case that you necessarily accidentally clicked on it).
If when you are done working with Find Duplicates you choose its "Clear duplicate results" option, OR you hit the ESC key, OR you click on the clear search button to the right of the search bar then calibre will automatically go back to whatever highlighting mode you had previously (as well as resetting search restrictions etc). Any of those should be your preferred ways of exiting search results and going back to doing normal calibre operations to avoid hitting this problem again. itimpi is spot on in explaining how to toggle the highlighting search mode, but it is likely not the only thing that needs resetting when exiting Find Duplicates "mode". |
