Londres 2012: Tout savoir sur les jeux by La Presse, one of Canada's leading francophone news outlets (official site, Wikipedia entry which says they've been in existence since 1884) is a multimedia guide to exactly what it says in the title, with a little bit of sporting history amidst the big current events, free courtesy of well, La Presse.

Currently free @ iTunes (available to Canadians). May or may not show up elsewhere, but it seems really unlikely, all things considered.

ETA: This is a 500 MB+ file, so you may want to download it at home on the computer if you've got a slow connection and/or are on a 3G plan with a data limit.

Also, I cannot mention the 2012 Olympics without linking you to the hilariously Orwellian horror that is the official mascot merchandising, for which you should read the Amazon review comments (via Charles Stross' blog, where you should see the brilliant use someone put one of these things to).

I actually want that Wenlock Policeman plushie now, to keep my Santa Cthulhu company as a fellow cuddly representation of vastly indifferent senselessly impersonal horrifically mindwarping soul-devouring evil (version corporate commercialism rather than eldritch abomination this time), because it's so doubleplusungood it's awesome.

Plus, it's got adorable little felty jackboots, the better for stamping on the human face forever. I imagine they kind of tickle when it does that.

p.s. Searching for "Santa Cthulhu" on the UK gives you a recommendation to read: Cthulhurotica, which I see is only $3.99 on Kindle (US). Sadly, there are no Cthulhu Santa's on the US site, either, but I did turn up a Christmas Card (one of many, it seems; who knew Cthulhumas needed so many cards?) and a Christmas Calendar App you can order, to keep it company.

Santa Cthulhu has long since been retired to the frozen Antarctica or wherever he keeps his non-underwater workshop until the stars are right and the shoggoths can ride/fly/crawl again, bringing Xmas despair to all. But you can see him and his other limited editions pals over at ToyVault's archive pages. I kind of want that plushie Necronomicon book now.

Also, cutest illustrated edition of the Call of Cthulhu Y/N? I would pay real money for this if it were a real book.

That's pretty cute. It does remind me of Dr. Seuss (at least with the illustrations).

Maybe he will put together a hardback (with the PDF, doing so via createspace might not be that hard).
