Nokia develops flexible hinge for phones and tablets

Now this could be something worth waiting for. A large screen but a small form factor. http://www.slashgear.com/nokia-flexi...lets-16238681/

At least while we wait for those flexible screens to arrive... |

Doesn't Sony have a phone model that opens so that the two halves joined by a hinge becomes a larger screen?

Sony has the P tablet. Unfortunately it is a very bad execution. It has a large space between the 2 screens and only apps that have been written specifically for that device work seamlessly over both screens.

This, apparently, is a much better execution of the same idea. Last edited by HansTWN; 07-17-2012 at 02:42 AM. |

It is also a companion tech for the flexible screens so it has long term value; you need low volume flexible hinges behind the bendable screen if you're going to end up with the kind of thin device deemed "cool".

Even without the flexible screen, it should come in handy for ultrabooks. I suspect this is one patent that'll be implemented soon. |

Wow. Watching that video from Slashgear made my stomach turn a bit. I mean, I get that it's a demo and stuff...but I looked down at my phone and imagined someone trying to do the same thing with it, but getting drastically different results.

It looks cool, though, once I get over the fact that the entire device is bending and not breaking. |

ooh! watching that video makes me wonder if it will be backpocket friendly without worries of accidently sitting on my galaxy s 2, with the flexability like that i could sit on my phone worrie free and not have to cram the phone in my front pocket with my keys!
