Get Metadata in bulk FROM FILE?

Is there a way to get metadata in bulk from the files after they've been imported into Calibre (i.e. they were imported earlier using "filename" rather than internal metadata)? I am aware that you CAN get covers, but what of the other info?

I'm not aware of a bulk way to do it. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but it isn't obvious .

Certainly you can do it for one book at a time by clicking on the blue i icon in the single edit metadata screen.

I've actually just found a Firefox plugin that will open the metadata database and allow me to export all of the data to csv files, which can then be opened in Microsoft Excel or Access.

The plugin is called SQLite Manager. (Whenever I use it, I always make a copy of the calibre database file "metadata.db" and use SQLite Manager to open the copy)

Hope this helps.

@djrm - that is a different type of metadata. The original poster was (I interpreted) asking about the metadata embedded inside the files themselves, not the calibre library metadata.

If you just want to do a CSV export of calibre then there is no need to go using tools against the calibre library database. Just use the "Catalog" feature of calibre which has the ability to export to CSV.
