Judge stops US sales of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has approved Apple’s request for a preliminary injunction in the U.S. against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.

“Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products,” Koh wrote on Tuesday.

Samsung, which has already appealed (PDF link) the decision, said it doesn’t expect this ruling to have a big impact on its business.

Ugh. While I know that it's just business... I still think it's really stupid.

But, it doesn't have any effect on the Tab II (yet) that just came out not too long ago

Apparently they're trying to stop Samsung from selling the GalaxyS III in the US too.

Apple's idea of competition is to either neuter pricing (agency model) or prevent sales of competing products. Interesting business model.

And the courts have ruled that at least in this case Samsung's business model is to "slavishly copy" other peoples products.

Both sides are equally guilty of stirring the pot, as are Microsoft, Google, Yahoo etc. Etc. Etc.

Patent law is in dire need of an overhaul. Patents for gestures and shapes are utter nonsense.

Yeah, but Apple's patent for "tablets" (that's the full description AND the name!) is totally legit. Their patent on "mobile technology" might be a little broad, but hey, why quibble?
