Strange artifacts in viewer

I am running calibre on a XP SP2 box via RDP. Have been running it this way since I installed caliber a long time ago.

There is a strange issue with the viewer, displaying artifacts on every book - epubs and mobis. This has been going on for several months now. It's not a show stopper but I'd like to know the cause of this curious issue.

Sigil does not have this problem.

Please, see attached files. The first one is the calibre viewer. The second, Sigil.

Many thanks

That did it!

Who would have thought of that?
