Well, it turns out that the KDP Select exclusive-or-else slushpile actually has something sufficiently sfnal and interesting to bother to post about, so here it is, along with the other non-repeat stuff from the past few days which itself is sufficiently worth including.
Dalek, I Love You by TV and radio review-writer Nick Griffiths is as the title indicates, a humourous Doctor Who fanboy memoir. Only this Doctor Who fanboy happened to make it relatively big in the media field, and thus his fanboy memoir got published in 2007 by Gollancz, a name you should be familiar with if you have any familiarity with UK sf/fantasy imprints because they're one of the majors. The blurb for this includes praise from UK newspapers and David Tennant, who played the Tenth Doctor. Free for who knows how long with DRM @ Amazon main UK DE ES FR IT Description Nick Griffiths watched his first Doctor Who aged four and a bit. He would have hidden behind the sofa but it was back against the wall and his parents didn't let him move furniture so he hid behind a cushion instead. He's since been told by his mum and dad that they didn't have a sofa only armchairs. So this book should really be called Behind the Armchair, but that didn't sound right. And so began a life long obsession. When Doctor Who started getting rubbish (after Tom Baker basically) he nearly escaped into the world of music and girls until he discovered someone selling tapes of old episodes in the small ads and that was that again. Only in the last few years has an anti-social obsession become something he can earn a living from as a journalist and happily this coincided with Doctor Who getting good again. Plus he has a son now so he can claim he's watching it for him. Oh and his son's called Dylan not Gallifrey or Davros. The rest of the backlist/established author parts of the slushpile which are non-repeat (excepting where someone was offering something new as well). Previously title-featured newspaper-syndicated cartoonist Carol Lay returns with another collection of her recommended short comics: FABLES AND FICCIONES: A Story Minute Selection UK writer Danny King offers a comedic crime novel which was originally 2001 small pressed and then adapted as the BBC sitcom Thieves Like Us: The Burglar Diaries Severn House-published Sujata Massey returns with a short story in her Hawaii-set Rei Shimura mystery series and repeats the 2008 novel: Linkage for the lot Dark Horse Comics-published Mark Wheaton returns with a follow-up short to his popular post-apocalyptic rescue dog saga and repeats another apocalyptic thriller: Linkage for the lot Fellow MR member author Scott Nicholson contributes to this horror anthology: Zippered Flesh: Tales of Body Enhancements Gone Bad! Previously title-featured Hodder Headline-published Gretta Curran Browne offers the first of a newly written globe-trotting historical saga set during the days of the British Empire: BY EASTERN WINDOWS (Book One of The Jarvisfield Trilogy) ISFDBed Stoker award-nominee Carole Gill returns with a gothic-looking horror/supense thriller: The House on Blackstone Moor (The Blackstone Vampires) ISFDBed Kensington/Pinnacle-published Anthony Izzo returns with another serial killer horror thriller, and repeats some kind of zombie thing as well: Linkage for the lot Often-title-featured PS Publishing returns with a few short stories by UK fantasy/horror writer Peter Crowther (ISDFB entry): Linkage for the lot (watch out for the Prime "free" thing) Previous Read an Ebook Week participant Xcite Books returns with another set of erotic romances and erotica: Linkage for the lot Books We Love/BWLPP has a couple of newly-offered freebies by established authors, along with its usual set of repeats (including some by fellow MR member authors): Linkage for the lot Romance readers should check the June romance thread for more backlist KDP freebies spotted by other MR members, and that 5th title in the Simeon Grist series by previously title-featured Timothy Hallinan has its own thread which you shouldn't miss if you've been collecting the lot. Happy reading, if you happen to spot something you think you might like, or can keep the Daleks from trying to EXTERMINATE you. Last edited by ATDrake; 06-15-2012 at 11:09 PM. |

Title feature still free, some non-repeat (I think) updates.
Harlequin writer Leigh Michaels returns with another cookbook of her favourite recipes. This was actually offered earlier, but IIRC it expired before I could add it as an update: Simply Good: Recipes for the Busy Cook Gary Brown offers his 1997 L&L small-pressed biography of stage magician Al Flosso (Wikipedia entry), in a new edition with extra pictures and an introduction by Teller of "Penn & Teller" fame (this was another one that expired before I could include it last time): The Coney Island Fakir: The Magical Life of Al Flosso Australian small press Big Sky Publishing returns with some more of its non-fiction mostly WWII military/adventure memoirs and repeats some old ones : Linkage for the lot Sunbury Press also has a mix of new and repeats, including a newly-offered novel by previously-included minor ISFDBed horror writer Thomas Malafarina: Linkage for the lot Xcite Books has added at least one new erotica offering, same link as yesterday, and PS Publishing has another repeat Crowther short if you missed it. |
