Dropbox dropping Public Folders

It appears current users will be able to keep public folders but Dropbox is phasing them out for new users. No more catalog support?

Do you think this is to avoid problems with being seeing as promoting/allowing illegal filesharing? The new way to share ANY folder with a link, without officially making it Public and potentially readable by large amounts of people seemed like a way to avoid having to police users. I know I'm not being particularly clear - wasn't this something that came out of the whole Megaupload bruhaha?

I doubt that. The sharing with a link scheme is exactly the way sharing used to work on mega upload. More likely they do not want people to use their service as a CDN/simple webhost.
