Calibre Version 0.8.56

Probably just me but previous version working fine this morning but immediately after upgrade to 0.8.56 Calibre crashed three times on searching (Title.Author/Series) for a title.

Also this was the first time on update (for me) that installing 0.8.56 Calibre requested a computer restart (not just Calibre restart)?

The latest version 0.8.56 automatically defaulted to calibre style as opposed to System default. I was able to switch it back, but will it eventually just be Calibre style?

Updated to 0.8.56, all my library dissapeared! I am currently restoring it. Any clues why?
Thanks tenpintaker (newbie)

Where your Library is is stored is in your (Private, Hidden) user applications folder.
If you change Log on's ,Calibre does not see the settings. The Library is till where it was. If you have full rights to the folder, use the Change/Switch right-click option on the Library Icon.

If you forgot where you left your Library...
search for metadata.db You should (in your case) see at least 2. You want the other one

What does 'See' mean?
I see the books on the shelf in the corner
I see them listed in Calibre's GUI
I see where they are in the file system (keep your mitts off unless you know exactly what will damage the library and avoid that.)

Hi Kovid,

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Am now at work and same thing happens while running under XP

I have the Calibre database on a portable 1 Tb drive so both systems using the same database and version of Calibre.

I ran a database check from within Calibre and all OK (apart from usual things with titles/authors etc.

Interesting trial I just did. I normally install a new version over the old one.

Just now at work under XP I completely uninstalled Calibre and started clean with version 0-8-55. Ran my search by author and all fine. I then completely uninstalled 0-8.55 and then freshly installed 0-8-56 and search now seems OK.

Will try this at home under Windows 7 and hope for same result. Strange.

Regards

Kovid,
Just returned to 0.8056 under XP at work. Went to search for an author and it crashed! So my theory about clean installs did not solve the problem!

Help!!

You may have a damaged (db) Author index file . Kovid will have to chime in on recovery.

It just happened then, not really a 8.56 problem.
(I have been beating the stuff outa 56 on XP, using Kiwidude's PI's and fine tuning my metadata. If it was going to barf, that should have done it )
