Plugin: code that you install to provide extra functionality to Calibre. Reading List management / Quality Check / etc

Plugboard: used to override book titles / author names / series and other such fields when you transfer a book to a device. Popular example is a plugboard that overrides the title of the book to add in Series Name / Series Index before the book's title, to allow the device to display books in series order.
