Can Calibre compress ePub?

I bought an eBook, and for some reason it's 3mb, and when I open it up on my eReader it has to load for a couple of seconds beforehand.

Can calibre shrink down the file size of the book? I was considering converting it, but figured that would just keep the file size the same, though am not sure.

Any ideas?

EPUB IS a zipped archive.
3MB Fonts, and Images (and messy coded) are the reasons.
Selct the title: Tap the 'T' key: Explode the book: set explorer to show details.

Now you can see where the big chunks are (if anny. It might be just a big book).

Open one of the largest HTML files with Notepad. look at the code...Lots of mid paragraph tags? Lots of inter-Paragraph <Div>'s: a messy convert or code

Just cancel the Explode (if you don't want to clean the code that way.
