connected to home wi-fi, but no internet
Greetings -
Picked up a simple touch a couple of weeks ago prior to a weekend getaway. Charged it. Registered it at the local 'bucks & downloaded a book. Downloaded another book at the airport prior to the flight home. So it seems to be working ... BUT I can't sync / buy / download at home. The nook 'sees' my wifi network, and connects, but can't get to the internet. (This is the same wireless internet connection that successfully feeds my son's mac laptop and my Win7 dekstop PC.) Hookup is via a Comcast/Xfinity cable modem to a NETGEAR wireless router (WNR2000, I believe). Corresponded with B&N -- their tech support was polite, but not at all helpful. Anyone else have this (or a similar) problem & solve it? Or have success with Comcast/Xfinity at home using this (or a different) router? Thanks kindly, - Richard |

When you say it "connects", do you mean it says it has connected and you get the strength bars showing the signal strength of the connection? I'm thinking that perhaps you aren't really connected at home -i.e. maybe you haven't entered the name or WEP security password correctly.

There have been issues with pretty much all nook models with flakey wifi on certain brands and models of wifi access points. My nook color did exactly what you describe here at work until the last update. It would connect, pick up an IP address (I could see it on the DHCP server), I could even ping it from a desktop comptuer, but it couldn't connect to anything outgoing, not the B&N store, not web sites, and not email. The last updated seems to have resolved it, so there's hope. In the meantime, your best bet, if you care enough, is to try a different brand of access point if you can.

Read how here:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Soft...ouch/379003175 Especially the description under "Get version 1.1.2 today." When you do it, notice Step 6: "6. Your NOOK will automatically recognize the file after a few minutes when it goes to sleep mode, and proceed to install the updates." In my experience, when you use this update technique, the update does not happen till the Nook goes to sleep. So you might want to shorten the sleep setting on your Nook to get it to go to sleep more quickly, just to shorten the time you have to wait till the update gets done. Note that my device is a nook color, not a Touch, so updates may or may not help you at the moment. But if you're not up to date on updates, it's not a bad idea to try it.
