Calling all robots to action!
Hey fellow MR robots! Bookstore owners are after our ereaders with their axes! My Kindle is currently hiding in the cupboard and shivering, poor thing is traumatised.

Silly humans.
Honestly, I admire his passion and he is making a stand for what he thinks is right, so hats off. But get a grip, Kindles are not "the enemy". Anything that promotes reading and the spread of knowledge should be celebrated, not condemned. |

Current ereaders are good enough to read on but they are definitely not even close to what they will become.
Funny comment about books being social communication objects, I mean in a sense yes, from author to reader, maybe book clubs and such. But books usually require a good portion of someone's attention when they are reading them. |

'Books are sociable and people stop and talk to each other about them.'
Then why is a book the first thing someone carries with them if they do not want to be bothered when travelling for some distance (plane/train/bus)? Also, I have been in a room with other readers and we were all pretty much silent the entire time. I guess if we were attempting to all meet and read the exact same thing as if in a book club, it would be different, but wouldn't an ereader still work the same in this situation? |

My Nook Color is ready to fend off any untoward advances... and my Droid is ready if it comes to close-quarters combat.
Of course... since I have those devices... I have no need to go to that festival. Problem solved. I understand his need to rail at the thing he sees as likely ending his business sometime soon. It's never nice to be left behind (or run over) by progress. But I hope he's spending some time working on his exit strategy. |

Mr Addyman really dislikes Kindles. In this video, he talks about how he told someone off for reading on a Kindle. He says that "I did refrain myself from grabbing hold of it and jumping up and down on it" and "the person holding it was quite lucky they escaped with their Kindle in one piece"

Oh, those frightening Brits. I just don't know what I'd do if one of them pointed a waggling finger at me from across a street, threatened to apply their rights as British citizens to tell me off in a brisk fashion, pantomimed their fervent desire to stomp all over my Nook, then fell over with a heart attack after their bangers and mash breakfast.

I'd say that makes it more social. Now if I could just get people to stop referring to it as a "Kindle"...when it's a NOOK. |
