Thanks to the google search page, little kids all over the world are getting the chance to play with their first soft synth and sequencer. The representation of the controls is hardly exact, but at least kids can change the wave forms and be exposed to the idea of potentiometers that change aspects of a sound.

Harry:

Half the people who actually use the moog don't pronounce the word correctly -- they pronounce it phonetically. I expect moo-guh is now an acceptable alternate.

Always wondered that myself, but I've found this:

Thanks, Graham. I always thought they were singing wrapped up like a deuce until I just check the lyrics which were just as confusing.

The lyric was written that way, but was it really sung that way? He clearly ends that word with a "sh" sound.

Then of course, there is this line in the song:

And little Early Pearly came by in his curly wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

often misheard by many as:

And little Early Pearly gave my anus curly wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

Such a dirty song

Harry, early on I read somewhere (maybe in Down Beat) the correct pronunciation, but I can assure you that 100% of anyone who said it in my hearing rhymed it with "moon".

Then along came an excellent hockey goaltender for the Boston Bruins named Andy Moog, and all the announcers got his name right; and I haven't heard the synthesizer mispronounced since.

I've been a studio musician for most of my life and have heard the name mispronounced by musicians and engineers on a daily basis.

5thWiggle: Didn't watch the clip because I'm working. Did Rick Wakeman actually say he got the synth at a discount from some inexperienced salesperson because it was monophonic?
