Just made my 10th (!!) Kindle device purchase!

Yesterday I made my 10th purchase of a Kindle device as a mother's day gift (8 of the others were for other people). Amazon should be paying me! :-)

So far:
================
4 Kindle 3
2 Kindle 3 SO
3 Kindle DXG
1 Kindle 4 (non touch)

I waited quite some time to buy one for my mother because most of her reading is $.25 paperbacks from a thrift store, which she reads and then quickly re-donates. With the low price of the new Kindle (the current gift card offers going on really helped too!) and the large number of free books available on Amazon I finally decided that there's probably enough stuff out there to keep her going for a long time and made the purchase.

Little did I know how much that first Kindle 3 that I bought for myself (and am still using) 1.5 years ago would cost! :-)

With Walmart having their "buy a Kindle, get a $30 gift card" promo, I picked up 2 more myself. One for my mom, one for ladywife (so I can have mine back, finally).

Now I'll get to watch Mom have a war with her manfriendperson since he's a proud owner of a Nook. I wonder who will be the Hatfield's and who will be the McCoy's...

Good work! I have equipped the family (three) with one each, and have a K3 and KT myself so five in total. I would be running you closer but we didn't have access in the UK until the K3.

I can't claim to have introduced quite so many folks, but I did get my girlfriend a Kindle 4 for our anniversary.

I only have 9 kindles.

But they are ALL MINE!

Unfortunately, 2 of them have broken screens.

The working ones are DX, DXG, K3, K3G, K4, K5(touch).

Impressive! I've converted quite a few folks.

We currently have two K3-3Gs, 1 Fire, 1 Touch WIFI and 1 Touch 3G. And they all get lots of use!

My kindle just went out. I stupidly left it in the car and I guess it was too hot in there. Of all the kindles you've purchased, which do you prefer? I'm not sure if I should get the Touch or the Keyboard. Also, how are the kindles with ads? Are the ads obnoxius or intrustive? Thanks.

So long as you don't mind a little banner at the bottom of the reader, and movie posters and the like as your screensaver (instead of pictures of various authors, like the usual Kindles have), it's not obnoxious at all imo.

The ads are not intrusive at all. My cover stays closed when I'm not reading it, so I don't see the screensaver page. We have two in the house with ads and mine without ads (purchased before the ads were available).

The only reason that I'm glad that I have the non-ad model is because I have the screensaver hack, which allowed me to put my contact info on the image, which is the reason that I haven't purchased 11 Kindles. :-) [though it did come back to me with a metal tab for the lighted cover broken, it still works w/ the SmakDab clip to hold it in and a bit of alignment of the broken bits to make electrical contact]

I've not used the newer models other than at the store. The one that I bought for my mom is still sealed in the box and all of the others that I've purchased were prior to the new models. I do see the appeal of the touch screen, though it wasn't such a big deal to me that I've felt any desire to upgrade at all. I'm still happy with my keyboard model.

Based on my recommendation, I think there are around 17 people using the Kindle (Touch, Keyboard, DX).

If you're going for the $79 non-touch with the $30 gift card that promo is over and if you're in the Niagara Falls/Buffalo NY area, they had NONE! I was not impressed.

I did notice though that the BJ's Clubs had the Kindle 3g with offers on sale for $129.99 marked down from $149.99. In case anyone is interested.

I don't see it showing online, it was an instore only item.
