the battery seems to be draining quickly these days. It's sad

watching one's first bestest ebook reader slowly die.

sorry about your 505.
Maybe you can change the battery. I think I have read some threads about this topic in this forum. Even through amazon germany one can buy a replacement.

I tried the battery change and it ended up costing me about 40$ and a new reader... The ribbon tape is the problem, it's very hard to connect back and "work" again for the buttons and tears very easily. I found numerous posts from hapless owners like me that had problems with the ribbon tape. Anyways, love mynew T1, love the touch screen and the wireless aspect of it!

Yep, that looks like the trickiest part. I've had problems with those type of ribbon cable/connectors before.

Mine is still working pretty well, I may just scrap it and get a newer model, or just start using my Kindle 2 more.

I feel your pain, since I am in the same situation

. I am hanging on to it, though.
After reading about LG's flexible screen I am hoping that the new batch will use it.

Me too -- I love my PRS-505 (silver), but I'm getting tired of having to charge it every other time I read it. I thought about replacing the battery myself, but then I got a Kindle 3 (which I exclusively use for Kindle freebies

) and it makes the 505 screen look kind of dull and I'm getting used to the convenience of downloading with wif-fi.

I was at Target this morning and the T1s were on clearance for $65 -- I impulsively bought one of those but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I'm not sure what I'm going with the PRS-505 and I'm not even sure if I'll like the differences and whether I will get any benefits -- besides a brighter screen and wi-fi -- that will make the upgrade worthwhile.

(I'm visiting the Sony forum today to learn more about it. Normally I stay out of the device forums because they just seem to only make me want to buy new stuff.

After I read this thread, I went to this same Target to look at T1s and they were all full price. (About two weeks ago.) It might be worth checking again later if it's a store you visit regularly.

Or did you mean they didn't have any at all?

Just for the record, I have a PRS-505 and a T1, and I think that the T1 is a fantastic update. You get built in dictionaries, a web browser, faster page turns, on-device page cropping, fonts to choose from, more font sizes to choose from, and more.

Whichever, I do so hope you're a traditionalist, these modern ereader cremations create a terrible smell - so upsetting for the relatives, especially the 905's that may still be alive and well.

Reminds them of their mortality, I think.

My store is about half Nooks and half Kindles and they have them hidden down one of the aisles, instead of on an endcap or in the middle display area. I don't think e-book readers sell well at this particular store -- which was lucky for me this time!
