Goodreads question.

Hello guys!

So I have a Goodreads account and I seem to have a problem. If I side load a book on my Nook Simple Touch, the device calculates the number of pages which is different from the one from the Goodreads and even though there are a lot of versions, I never seem to find the right version. I can't show how much I'm into the book because the page numbers do not correlate and I can't use the percentage method because Nook does not have this option. What can I do? I load the book in Calibre and I use the "Page numbers" plugin to approximate the page numbers by using the "Download from Goodreads" option and I insert them into metadata but it doesn't seem to change into the device.

I hope I made it clear in order for you to understand. Is there way to synchronize the book from my device with the book from the Goodreads to have an accurate experience?

I have given up on page # concordance. Font size, font choice, margins, space between lines (all of which are adjustable on my Kobo Touch), change the number of pages. I do keep the little page numbers visible in the rt margin on ADE books (they can be turned off on the Touch) because that number is based on a formula/algorithm. I can share page numbers with other folks using those.

With ADE, the pages DO NOT CHANGE when you change the margins, fonts size, font, line spacing.. ADE calculates the page numbers based on a 1024 byte count. So it is totally independent of format changes.

With ebooks I've purchased, I use the ISBN like any other book and it has almost always found it in the Goodreads database. For others, once you find any edition, there are ways to search and filter to see the ebook editions. I usually just pick one that is not specifically the Kindle version.

As to the percentage thing. I'm a NOOK user, so it doesn't directly give that data. It does give me "on pg x out of x" info, which is ludicrously simple to calculate a percentage from.

Yes, ADE is Adobe Digital Editions.

As to the page numbers on Goodreads for the eBook edition, most listings for eBooks (when they do give a page number) use the page number from a print edition and thus, it's wrong.
