Collections without calibre plugin

If you just want to organize or create collections without using Calibre, there is a free program available at: "http://www.colegate.net/KindleCollectionManager/". You connect your kindle, launch the program and it reads the books and collections on your device. You can create/delete collections and drag and drop into and between collections.

It's quick and very easy to use and an alternative to the plugin.

Worth noting from the FAQ:
Quote:
Are the Kindle Fire and Kindle Touch supported?
I'm afraid the Kindle Fire and Kindle Touch are not supported right now.

Also worth noting I tried that but I could not get it to work with my Touch, though the developer did work with me to try to get it to work.

I would like to try this "Kindle Collection Manager" program that dickens61 describes. Is there a discussion thread for it on MR? I've tried searching, but no luck. Best to read what I can before messing around with my kindle. The website has good screen shots. Looks easy-to-use and useful - has anyone tried it here?
Thanks!

Check out Kindlean from Alfa.NetSoft. It works where the calibre plugin does not, i.e. with the Kindle Touch.
The free version of Kindlean might as well be labeled 'demo'. It won't work with more than a small number of titles, but you can see how it works.
With a rebate code mentioned elsewhere on this forum (IIRC, "50freakingpercentoff"), I bought the paid version for $9.98. For me, it was worth this much even if I used it only once: I had 250 titles to put into collections, and with the software on the Touch I would have had to find and checkmark each title in the contents list, *which can only be ordered alphabetically*.
I now use Kindlean to put every new book I add into a collection. Drag-and-drop, and it's quick slick.

I have not been able to get Kindlean to work with the new Kindle Touch Patch 5.1.0.

Kindle Touch 5.1.0 and Kindlean

I've posted a couple times in the past day about Kindlean not working with the new 5.1.0 patch.

On the Kindlean site they say they are working on the problem. If your like me though most of the books you're interested in are series and being unable to sort them into collections is rather annoying.

Until Kindlean patches, its possible to Jailbreak your 5.1.0 Kindle Touch and use the program.

Yes, the Kindlean FAQ now say:-

Quote:
What Kindle versions are supported?
Kindlean works with Kindle 3* and Kindle 4.
Exceptions:
- with Kindle 3 you won't be able to change visible book titles, because Kindle 3 caches them
- Kindle Touch is not supported for now

i have used the paid version of kindlean.... it does NOT work with the touch.... i worked with the developer, and many emails were sent back and forth... it kinduh worked but was very buggy.... he/she decided to stop using it for the touch after working with me.... the collections are in a DATABASE on the kindle touch ... CC.DB and will need someone with database connectivity experience to make a plug in work..
